Research for Leeds23.
For Leeds 23 I am doing an art residency called The fire that connects us, its about collecting stories surrounding the theme of Fire in Leeds. While I am there I will interview firefighters, artists and other local Leeds residents, those people who have experienced fires great or small in and around the city, and what this has meant or signified in their lives, positively and/or negatively.
In the Leeds Central Library, they have a collection of six scrapbooks, consisting of newspaper cuttings and handwritten notes, poems detailing the activities of a very interesting character called firefighter Henry Richard Baker (1841 -1911) that i will also use for the research. And ill be looking into the Henry Moore research library.
The research will evolve into a compact publication that I will donate to the central library, in addition to creating a new piece of work.
